Jean Ayo
Biography
Jean Ayo, a water media painter, loves the flow and reaction of water and color. Using both watercolor, ink, and acrylic, jean expresses her passion, “Seeing color react, gradate, and blend on a surface is exciting and fosters a desire to communicate this to the viewer”. Inspiration for subject matter is drawn from the flora and fauna found along the southern gulf coast and is recorded on a variety of surfaces including paper, yupo, gessoed board, and canvas. The artist believes painting provides a unique opportunity to share her culture and life experiences with others. Living in Louisiana furnishes an enriched and exciting environment filled with family experiences, outstanding foof, and music; all stimulating the creative process. Jean’s goal in painting is to create opportunity for the imagination of the viewer to see more than what meets the eye, to remember a similar life experience or to recall a past moment in time.
The artist studied with many accomplished artists and believes each has contributed to and enriched her work including: Lula Ameen, Mary
Boudreaux, Martha Guthrie, Jan Hart, Henri Hensche, Edgar Whitney, don Andrews, and Tom Lynch. She treasures the experiences provided through classes taught in the Nicholls State University Department of Art. The artist’s paintings have received several awards and can be found in many homes and businesses across the country.
